Here is a video demonstration our prototype.

Its demonstrates the different dogs and users in the community and the way the user will interact with it.

Is it clear?

Card...

So we managed to get a plasacien dog moked up and buttons added to his nose and tail. The product works in 3 ways.

1. Standing on all fours means the dog mob is off, not wanting to go for a walk today

2.Tilted onto its nose and front paws, suggests the dog is egar to go, therefor a walk is in 15 to 30 minuets.

3. Tilted back onto its tail and hind legs means a walk at some point in the day will happen.

We are still researching how the different dogs in the community will work and engage with each other and wether there will be different types of barks for the differnet users.

Soon to come...Pictures!

Prototype

Just to let you all know we have our prototype working! the basic idea is that someone in the dog mob network can notify the others they want to go for a walk by turning a knob, depending on how far they turn it it will let the others know how urgently they want to go.
so there will be different sounds for the urgency of walk! at the moment we have different dog barking sounds but if anyone has any suggestions for different sounds then let us know!

So today we tried and failed to make a prototype...

But some of the other guys in the class managed, so here is our friends Bread and Butter Design.

Love for Jack for making it work

Hi all you bloggers out there, was wondering, what sound do you personally connect with going for a walk, or walking your dog?

WOOF WOOF?

Update...

We have now narrowed our 100 ideas down to just 2:

Dog Mob (taken from flash mob concept http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VQ3d3KigPQM)

Work to Home communication system (working title)

We are currently working on expanding and developing these concepts...

The idea we are most focused on is the dog mob, this idea involves a network of products which are placed in a number of homes. When anyone in the network wants to go out on a dog walk they simply activate the dog mob product and it sends a signal to every member of the network. This signal could be the sound of a dog barking, when they hear this sound they could all meet in a designated point and begin the dog walk.
As well as being a good social activity it will also make the users feel safer when out on a walk as they will be part of a large group instead of on their own.

If anyone has any views or ideas on this concept they would be greatly appreciated...
So, trying to get dog sounds is harder than i thought.

Here is my attempt at getting the sound of my dog walking on tiled and stone floor.

Apologies for my stoping feet in the background, hopefully better videos and sounds to follow.

LAUNCH

SHERBET is small design company consisting of four 2nd year girls studying Product Design at The University of Dundee. We have high hopes for our company and the course over the following few months. A lot is happening and we plan to keep this blog up to date with current design issues, things we like/don't like and course work, past present and future.

Being in the Matthew Building (adjecent to the main art buliding) means that we are in the main launching pad of anything art or design related. SHERBET plans to inform the world of all things design, wether it be some out-there art work, or an interesting piece of enginering!

The four of us have a fresh but simple way of working and designing. We plan to design a fresh new way for retired people to work and socialise. The brief for this out going project will follow.

So keep intouch, watch this space and get ready...
